Evening Concert plus an Afternoon Family Concert

For the fifth year in a row, Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center will host a family-oriented concert at 3 p.m., prior to the start of Livermore’s annual holiday parade. The Symphony will offer Carnival of the Animals narrated by Michael Wayne Rice, a selection of holiday favorites, and seasonal music. Following the concert, an instrument petting zoo staffed by Symphony musicians will provide a priceless opportunity to interact with the musicians and their instruments.

“Winter Dreams”
The charming dance music of Mozart, with the jingle of sleigh bells, sets a delightful scene to open our 57th season. Next, we turn to Saint-Saëns’ 
beloved Carnival of the Animals. Rich with lyricism and invention, this “Grand Zoological Fantasy” is much more than animal imitation. Its humor is surprisingly human, particularly when paired with the famously clever wit of poet Ogden Nash. Finally, we dive into Tchaikovsky’s groundbreaking first symphony, full of endless melodic inspiration; it evokes the beauty and isolation of a wintry landscape. Note that the evening concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. (15 minutes later than usual, and no Prelude talk this time; doors open at 8 p.m.).
